All the best laid plans....... Dawn was ready to do her first PSG and I was very excited about it and then I got a call from the Hong Kong Para trainer, Steph, she would be perfect for her team – can she come and try her. Reluctantly I said yes and before I knew it she has been sold!! She was born to be a Para horse as she is so kind and gentle to ride and will now have a life of luxury and be loved to bits by her new riders. I am so proud of her!! She went to do her first international in Spain and won the Grade 1a individual which was just so exciting. The Hong Kong team have a place at the Olympics so if Dawn is one of the highest scoring horses then she will go!!!
This means this will be one of the first times I will not be at the Nationals doing the Gala evening performance at PSG so I was disappointed but everything happens for a reason I guess. I have been lucky to have found another dream horse – Late Night a 9 yr old Dutch horse. Bernie is working at advanced and can do all the tricks and is also a real sweetheart. I am really excited about him as he is very talented! He will be in training for a while to improve his way of going and so we can get to know each other and will then hopefully start his competition carer in the spring. I will aim to do the high profile and premier league shows at PSG and Inter I with him and hopefully the PSG music for next year. He seems to have the talent for the grand prix as well so I will be aiming to train him on and see how far we can go.
The horrendous weather and gale force winds has meant I have started a bit of in hand work with Jack lol!! I though instead of risking injuring myself in the hurricane winds I would teach him piaffe. It took him 2 days to get the idea! Now I look forward to the days when the weather is so bad I don’t fancy ridding and then we practice our piaffe. He seems to love it which is very exciting. He has really built up his strength now and I am thrilled with his progress. I am in no hurry to rush him as he is so special and at the moment his training is more important than going to shows so I shall probably aim for the Summer regionals with him. I am so pleased with his muscle development, he is starting to look much more established and the self carriage and balance of his huge paces is really improving
Night Dreamer or Billy to his friends has been progressing really well. We can now do most of our transitions on the bit – not all of them but we are getting there! He has a super canter and is really learning to sit and collect well. His trot is still a little weak but we thought we would take him to a show for some fun and see how he behaved. He was an angel and managed to get 67% in his first ever novice which I was thrilled with as there is still lots to work on. He is such a delightful horse, so beautiful and so easy to train. I am very lucky to be able to work with him!
Bonnie has been a little star and been beating big flashy warmbloods even though she is only a little welsh pony!! She only needs 3 more points to qualify for the summer regionals at novice after only 2 outings. I have been so pleased with how consistent she is in the ring and she is getting scores up to 70% and some really great comments from the judges. We are looking for a new home for her now and I’m sure she will make a fabulous pony for some lucky rider!!
I have a gorgeous new pony in training called Jackson who is such fun to ride. He is stunning to look at and a real character. He will be available for sale soon so see the sale page for more details if you are interested in him.
Regionals will soon be with us so I am hoping for all my clients who have qualified that the weather holds out and we do not get a repeat of last years snow!! I will be going to help coach and am really looking forward to it! Fingers crossed we will have a few people at Nationals like last year!!
2012 calendar is filling up fast and I am teaching all over the UK so hope to see everyone soon! If you are interested in booking a clinic please email for more details or check out the clinic pages for one near you.
